Craigendoran beach and pier remains at the mouth of the Gareloch near Helensburgh, Scotland. I had waited weeks for the right combination of low tide and clear(ish) sky at sunset to get the images of Craigendoran I wanted. The last time I’d been to Craigendoran was not long after I’d first picked up a DSLR and since my previous visit much of the wall adjoining the remains of the pier has collapsed, I assume in the severe storms of the winter before last, as can be seen in the image below.
The pier at Craigendoran was at one time part of Craigendoran railway station at the start of the West Highland line and was used by Clyde Paddle Steamers including the Waverley until its closure in 1972. Once having several platforms and serving the West Highland line, Craigendoran station now only has a single platform on the single-track North Clyde line into Helensburgh Central.
