Supreme Nature 52 – Week 8

Former abattoir site next to Duke Street in Glasgow, Scotland

Former abattoir site

This week’s photograph shows a view through the mesh fence at the former Glasgow Meat Market site on the corner of Duke Street and Bellgrove Street in Dennistoun in Glasgow, Scotland with the skyline of the Eastern fringe of the City Centre in the background.

The site was formerly an abattoir and wholesale market complex, demolished in 2007, now overgrown with grass and wild flowers.

The land here has been earmarked for redevelopment as part of the College Business District regeneration project and will eventually contain commercial and leisure developments. The sandstone arch entrance to the market still remains at Graham Square on the Gallowgate and is a listed facade, integrated into a modern residential development.
