From 1st December 2014 the scope of the free image use programme will be widened.
Images will be available free of charge for all non-commercial uses in material that is not offered for sale in hardcopy or online (such as via e-commerce or subscription paywall). The available resolution of free images will also be increased and the current circulation limit (5,000 copies) will be removed.
Examples of Free Use
- Educational and academic use
- Personal use
- Free publications including print and e-books
In order to subsidise the ongoing expansion of the free image programme, gratuities are sought from image users and others who appreciate the work produced and are prepared to sponsor it. Payments can be made via Paypal or anonymously via Gratipay – https://gratipay.com/dunmaglasphoto/. You can pay amounts from $0.01 to $100 via Gratipay.
The aim is to support the concept of providing open source content in a way that is financially viable and sustainable. This can only be done with the support of sufficient numbers of sponsors pledging regular (even if very small) amounts. Depending on the level of regular gratuities that are made the free image use programme may be rolled out to all editorial uses in the future.
10% of all gratuities will be donated to support marine conservation work.
